About us
The Workshop @ Durham is a business created out of a cut short career in woodwork (bear with me on this one) and a re found love after years of varied careers ranging from engineering to a food business.

My name is Steve and I started the latest part of this journey as a hobby and outlet for creativity.

The journey however started after leaving school and attending a course at Peterlee Technical College (now East Durham College) in woodwork and joinery. I never finished that course and spent the next 28 years searching for a career to fuel my creativity.
From a young age my love of art and creativity was strong and that has never left my side. An avid hobby photographer, a baker of bread and pies, sketches and drawings then back to picking up the tools.
As a former Gas engineer my copper pipework was to me always a piece of art. I decided to get in the garage and combine the love of wood and copper into one, making a butcher's block and copper shelf (recycling a kitchen worktop cut off). Light bulb moment and that content feeling I had been searching for!

Since that day I have explored using more materials such as steel, hair pin legs and more recently up cycling second-hand furniture with paints and accessorising with copper or steel.

The name The Workshop came from the beginning of this latest journey to create a space where I can work from and so constructions started at the same time as this business.
